The Best Way to Start Your Tattoo Cover-Up? Fill Out the Contact Form
If you found me while looking for the safest laser tattoo removal and a no-nonsense cover-up artist who actually knows what they’re doing, you’re in the right place. Whether your tattoo didn’t age well, no longer fits who you are, or just needs fixing, I can help.
The Truth About Tattoo Cover-Ups
A tattoo cover-up isn’t just about putting new pigment over an old mistake. The tattoo you already have dictates what’s possible. Dark pigment, thick lines, faded or lasered—every case is different. Some tattoos can be covered as they are, but others need laser removal first. If the existing tattoo is too dense or dark, lightening it gives us more options. Since I handle laser tattoo removal myself, we can fade the tattoo before the cover-up, avoiding the hassle of multiple places and uncertain results.
Size, Color, and Cover-Up Realities
Size matters in tattoo cover-ups. The new design must be at least 30 percent larger to fully mask the original. And if you think black and gray is the standard approach for cover-ups, it’s not. In fact, it doesn’t even work in most cases—but that’s a separate discussion.
A Cover-Up That Lasts
A successful tattoo cover-up has to flow with your body and the old tattoo. If you have a specific idea in mind, I’ll be upfront about whether it will work. Some designs just don’t cover well, and I won’t waste your time trying to force something that won’t hold up. But if you’re open to ideas, we can come up with something that actually works, rather than something that looks decent for a year before the old tattoo starts showing through.
For bold black tattoos or heavy outlines, there are two main options:
- Work with what’s already there and transform it into something new.
- Go for full coverage with a darker, denser design.
If you want something softer or more detailed, we’ll likely need to fade the old tattoo first. Laser tattoo removal isn’t always necessary, but when it is, it makes a huge difference in how clean and natural the final result looks. Since I do both laser removal and tattoo cover-ups, I can plan the entire process to ensure the best possible outcome.
